However, just like us, they only have seven cervical vertebrae. Giraffes can stick their heads through a second-story window of a building and say "hello." Their tongues can extend up to 50 centimeters, are insensitive to thorny leaves, and have an unusual color: dark blue. This color helps protect giraffes from sunburn when they nibble and tear leaves. Even animals as large as giraffes need to sleep on the ground occasionally. When there's no threat of danger, they lie down on the ground for a nap, but in the wild, they mostly sleep standing up.
